Overview

DAR-B is a passive coherent location (PCL) radar and signals intelligence platform. Rather than transmitting its own radar pulses, it exploits ambient FM broadcast transmissions as opportunistic illuminators to detect, track, and geolocate airborne and surface targets in real time — with zero active RF emission. The system produces no radar signature that electronic support measures can find.

Eight receive antennas arranged in a circular array provide simultaneous 360° coverage across eight azimuth sectors. Targets are detected by correlating the received FM reference signal against target reflections, producing range and velocity data. A multi-frame tracker resolves individual detections into persistent target tracks, reporting range in kilometres and radial velocity in metres per second.

Beyond passive radar, DAR-B estimates the bearing of detected targets using high-resolution direction-of-arrival algorithms, resolving multiple simultaneous targets in angle. An operator HMI displays live range-velocity maps, bearing plots, and annotated target tracks in real time.

How does DAR-B detect targets without transmitting anything?

DAR-B uses existing FM broadcast stations as the radar's transmit source. Its antenna array listens for reflections of those broadcasts off passing targets and correlates them against the direct broadcast signal — producing range and velocity data for each detected target, with no active emission from the system itself.

What targets can DAR-B detect and track?

DAR-B detects and tracks airborne and surface targets with detectable motion — including aircraft, drones, and vehicles. The system reports range in kilometres, radial velocity in m/s, and estimated bearing, and maintains persistent tracks across multiple detection intervals.

What makes DAR-B LPI/LPD?

DAR-B is a purely passive receive system. It emits nothing. There is no radar waveform for enemy electronic support measures to detect, intercept, or geolocate — making it covert by design.
